The standard pressure relief at the filter mount like the one shown in Fig. 58.1 opens at 12 to 15-PSI. As a result, oil in the pan is constantly circulated to the engine without being filtered. This puts dirty oil back into the running assembly. This relief can be removed and the hole drilled and taped for a pipe plug. As long as you don't get to wild with the oil pressure a standard oil filter will work without the bypass.
