When boring the cylinders of a small block if you plan on boring it more than 0.040-inch you should have the cylinder walls sonic tested because the wall thickness between the cylinders "A" in Fig 42.3 are thinner than they are at "B" . I have seen cylinder walls vary as much as 0.125-inch between "A" and "B"
