CRANKSHAFT CLEARANCE: |

For those of you who are going to use a older small journal block and a longer than original stroke crankshaft you best check for crankshaft clearance. Blocks manufactured prior to 1962 were flat (Fig. 42.10) across the bottom of the cylinder walls shown with LINE "A" and later blocks have a radius at the bottom of the cylinder walls ARROW "B" which was done to allow room for the larger strokes.
