These rods shown in Fig. 27.3 represent the three different styles of rods for the small block Chevy. The 283 rod is completely round on the big end and has a very narrow beam width as compared to the 327 rod Fig. 27.4 so this rod should not be used if at all possible. The next rod is the 327 rod it has a thicker beam and more material in the big end. It is the best rod to use for the small journal crankshaft. The next rod the 350 rod has more material in the big end and it uses a 3/8-inch rod bolt where the small journal rods use a 11/32-inch bolt. |
