CONNECTING ROD PREPARATION: Part 4 |

1.Hand-select rods for minimum flash and die overlap. Equal but not excessive balance pads. Free from nicks and gouges. 2.Brinell hardness 269-321 3.7-3.4 mm dia. of impression. Rockwell "C" 28-34. 3.Magnaflux 100%. 4.Qualify dimensions marked. 5.Grind and polish indicated areas. See Part 1.
6.Shot-peen per note. ASSEMBLY DETAILS: 1.Fit pins to 0.0007-0.0008-inch in rod. 2.Use new nuts and bolts for final assembly. Oil threads and shank.
3.Stretch rod
bolt to 0.006-inch with 50-60 Lb. Ft.

1.Remove minium material when contouring and polishing. |

2.Must be free from nicks and scratches. |
|
3.Coining not permitted. |
|
4.Shot-peen bolt head and nut seats after machining to almen 0.012-0.015 A arc height with No. 230 cast steel shot. |

5.Finish both crank and piston-pin diameters within these limits. |
