  Assemble and install pistons and rods as shown in Fig. 26.1. Not all small-block rods have an Oil Hole but all bearings have the Oil Hole which is opposite the Bearing Tang. The Oil Hole was to help oil the cam so when the rod is assembled correctly the oil hole will point towards the cam, but it was found out later that the oil hole was not needed and bearing reliability was increased by doing away with the Oil Hole.

NOTE: The valve depressions on the domed pistons will be toward the top of the piston when installed in the block. The Bearing Tang will be facing toward the pan rail.
